Battery Changes in
watches:
For best results please
send your
heart monitor to a factory authorized repair
facility. Look in the back
of your instruction manual for the correct phone number for your
product. If you can't find the phone number you may call us
at 415-924-7999 Monday- Friday 10-5 Pacific time and we will look up
the number for you. Our company
does not do repairs or battery changes.
Battery Changes in Chest
Belts:
Most heart monitor chest transmitter belts have a battery
hatch that can be opened to change the battery. The chest belts
need standard CR 2032 batteries. These batteries are available at most
consumer electronics stores for about $3.00. If the battery
hatch is not replaced correctly, perspiration moisture will
get into the chest transmitter and corrode the electronics.
If in doubt, have a authorized facility or jeweler change the
battery.
 Problems?
Heart monitor watch is
blank or has no reading:
If the watch is blank, most likely your watch has a dead
battery. Get your battery changed.
The Heart rate is
erratic:
If the watch has an erratic heart rate
or sticks at an incorrect or high or low number the watch may be picking
up an electronic emission from an exercise machine, high voltage line,
electric motor, radio tower, or some other electronic source. To
verify that this is the problem take off your chest belt. If the
watch continues picking up a reading then it must be coming from some
other electronic emission source. The solution is to move away
from that area until the watch reading is normal, or try bringing the
watch closer to the chest band.
Watch shows time but no
heart rate:
The
battery in the chest belt may be dead. See above instructions for
changing chest belt batteries.
SPECIAL
CARE AND MAINTENANCE TIPS FOR
YOUR HEART
RATE MONITOR:
To extend the life of your Heart Rate
Monitor and keep it operating in peak condition, please refer to your
User's Manual and keep the following in mind:
The Receiver:
Although your unit is water resistant, it is important
not to operate the buttons underwater, as the pressure can cause the
receiver to leak. The buttons should only be operated when out of the
water. It is also important to keep your monitor clean and wipe off any
moisture before putting it away, and never store it in a non-breathing
material when not in use, (such as a plastic bag or damp gym bag)
moisture and humid air can become trapped and shorten its life.
If the heart
rate display will not turn on: be sure
that you have moistened the electrodes on the belt. This is important
for initial registering of heart rate, especially in dry weather. You
need only apply a few drops of water to each of the rectangular electrodes on
the back side of the belt (the side that goes against your skin).
Position the belt on your chest with the center of the belt at the
center of your chest, just below your pectoral muscle, or underneath the
breast area.
The Transmitter:
The transmitter may also become exposed to moisture from
perspiration, therefore, it is
important to remove the transmitter unit from the belt and wipe it off
after every use, to
prevent the
snap-connectors from corrosion.
Under extreme sweat conditions it may be
necessary to treat the transmitter snaps with silicone lubricant spray
to help prevent corrosion. It may also be necessary to wear the belt
over a light shirt to prevent irregular readings caused from excessive
sweat.
The Transmitter Belt: The
transmitter belt will eventually wear out over time. This
will cause disturbances or failure of heart rate measurements. If this
should occur, replacement belts are available. To maximize the
life of your belt, be sure not to stretch or bend the electrode strips
of the belt, especially when storing it. This will damage their conductivity.
The belt itself can and should be cleaned
with a mild soap and water solution when needed. However, never use
alcohol or abrasives such as: steel wool or cleaning chemicals. They
will cause permanent damage to the electrodes.
Interference:
Please note that
your Heart Rate Monitor's signal is affected
by strong electrical and electromagnetic fields. Such as those caused from operating: within transmitting
distance of another heart rate monitor, in a vehicle (or on board an
aircraft) near televisions, electric motors, antennas or high voltage
power lines. These disturbances can cause erratic and faulty heart rate
readings. Some exercise machines and electronic
displays can also produce interference. However, this can usually be
overcome by relocation of the wrist receiver. To find a location which
has no interference: Disconnect the transmitter belt and exercise as
usual, if the heart symbol is still flashing, you are picking up
interference. Just move the receiver to a location where it does not
flash and replace your transmitter belt and it should be OK. (In most
cases a location on the handlebar works fine).
