Above normal resting or
recovery heart rate can be an indicator of illness, injury,
stress, anxiety or over training.
Most horses have a
morning resting heart rate of 25 – 35 beats per minute.
Recovery heart rate after exercise is higher and individual for
each horse. Heart rate will "recover" more quickly as
your horse becomes more fit.
Take resting heart
rate for 5 consecutive days first thing in the morning
to determine normal resting heart rate.
For recovery heart rate
can measure the horse’s heart rate after exercise
while standing still.
Moisten both electrode
pads and position them on the horse coat near the elbow. Place the transmitter
against the coat horse, hold the face of the receiver next
to the center part of the Transmitter's Polar logo.
Heart Rate measurement will
start in 10 seconds and you can see your heart rate (beats
per minute) and the heart symbol in the display.
