Delivering Precision
Exercise Oncology
Evidence-based exercise medicine training for health professionals in cancer management
This FitMed Academy workshop provides health professionals with practical, evidence-informed skills to deliver high-quality exercise medicine in cancer care.

The workshop will be led by Professor Rob Newton - one of the world’s most respected researchers and clinicians in exercise medicine and a global authority in exercise oncology.
Why this workshop matters
Exercise Medicine is not optional in modern cancer treatment
Exercise is increasingly recognised as a powerful frontline adjunct therapy in cancer care. Research shows that appropriately prescribed exercise can improve physical function, reduce treatment-related side effects, benefit quality of life, enhance effectiveness of other cancer treatments, and increase survival. Despite this evidence, exercise is still not routinely integrated into cancer treatment pathways.
A key barrier is the limited number of professionals trained to apply exercise medicine safely in people with cancer, who often present with complex clinical issues such as treatment toxicities, fatigue, frailty, bone metastases, and reduced physical capacity.
The Precision Exercise Oncology course addresses this gap by equipping healthcare and exercise professionals with the knowledge and practical skills to assess patients, prescribe targeted exercise interventions, and integrate exercise into multidisciplinary cancer care.
Beyond individual practice, this workshop also serves as a foundational capability pathway within the broader FitMed ecosystem — supporting governed, scalable exercise medicine care delivery through FitMed Connect.™
What you'll learn
Evidence translated into confident clinical decision-making and patient support
The course is delivered in two modules: Module 1 is an online programme (20 hours of learning) that can be started at any time and completed at the participant’s own pace, while Module 2 is an optional two-day face-to-face workshop (16 hours learning)—available after completing Module 1—that focuses on extensive practical activities, case studies, and applied clinical scenarios.
By completing this course, you will develop the knowledge and practical skills to apply exercise medicine in cancer care, including how to:
-
Understand the biology of cancer and the effects of major cancer treatments
-
Apply the principles of exercise physiology and exercise prescription in oncology settings
-
Conduct safe pre-exercise screening and clinical risk stratification
-
Assess cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, functional capacity, and body composition
-
Interpret patient-reported outcomes and quality of life measures
-
Design targeted exercise prescriptions for people at different stages of cancer treatment and recovery
-
Modify exercise for treatment-related side effects such as fatigue, sarcopenia, neuropathy, osteoporosis, and reduced functional capacity
-
Integrate exercise medicine into multidisciplinary cancer care pathways
-
Monitor patient progress and adapt programmes over time for maximum effectiveness and safety
Participants who attend the practical workshop will also develop hands-on skills in assessment techniques, exercise programming, and case-based clinical decision making.
